Switzerland had been on my bucket list for years (to be honest, most countries are) to enjoy the notoriously beautiful scenery, but it’s reputation as a pricey destination made me feel as though it was unrealistic to go as a budget traveller. When I decided to go on a somewhat spontaneous Interrail trip after graduating in 2024, it made sense to stop and spend a few days between Paris and Innsbruck.

While Zurich definitely lived up to its expensive reputation, I was pleasantly surprised by the prices in Lucern, not to mention blown away by the gorgeous scenery in the fairytale town. Another area that took me by surprise is how LGBTQ+ friendly it was. Despite it being more conservative than surrounding countries, I saw pride flags, gay-friendly businesses and many openly queer couples. I’ve compiled all my top recommendations for you to enjoy Switzerland without breaking the bank, and some fun spots for LGBTQ+ tourists to enjoy safely!
