Getting Around

Tram Ride – A Classic Lisbon Experience

A ride on the famous Lisbon trams, particularly the iconic Tram 28, is a must for any visitor. Winding through narrow streets and offering views of historic neighborhoods, this tram ride is an affordable and fun way to explore the city.

Cost: Single ticket costs €3; use a Viva Viagem card for discounted fares (€1.50 per ride).

Budget Tip: Consider purchasing a 24-hour public transport pass for €6.40, which covers unlimited tram, bus, and metro rides

Bolt – best for travelling in a group

If you’re travelling as 2 or more, it might work out cheaper to take a bolt (like an Uber) and split the cost! On my last trip I took several journeys that were less than €5. But remember to tip your driver!

What to Do

Trying Original Pastel de Nata – A Sweet Treat

No trip to Lisbon is complete without indulging in a traditional pastel de nata (Portuguese custard tart). Head to Pastéis de Belém for an authentic experience, where these delicious pastries have been baked since 1837 and they remain the most DELICIOUS pastéis in the world

Location: Rua de Belém 84-92, Lisbon, Portugal

Cost: Tarts are around €1.20 each

Top Tip: The line to eat inside can often be very long, look for the shorter line at the takeout window on the left hand side

On my bucket list for my next Lisbon trip is a cooking class to learn to make Pastel de Natas! Here is the link to the one I’ve been recommended: https://getyourguide.tp.st/7ga53wBx

Nightlife in Bairro Alto – Where to Party

Bairro Alto is the heart of Lisbon’s LGBTQ+ nightlife, with a variety of bars and clubs welcoming the queer community. Some queer venues are also located in nearby Principe Real. Here are some of my favourites:

Trumps: Lisbon’s largest LGBTQ+ nightclub, offering a mix of house music and drag performances

Finalmente: Established in 1976, this club some of the best drag in Portugal with shows EVERY NIGHT at 3am!

Purex: More lesbian oriented than any other venue in Lisbon, this club is affordable and has exciting theme nights

Friends: My personal favourite, a small but lively bar with a DJ and great cocktails

LX Factory – A Creative Hub
